Wycombe Wanderers lifted into League 1 play-off places by points per game calculation

Wycombe Wanderers are set to contest this season’s League 1 play-offs after both League 1 and 2 saw their seasons ended early after a formal vote by clubs on Tuesday.

Both tables were settled on points per game with the Chairboys lifted into third place, replacing Peterborough United in the play-offs.

Promotion, relegation and play-offs remain in both divisions and it is thought that the National League could now follow suit.

The league was due to hold its meeting on the subject today (Wednesday).

Coventry and Rotherham are promoted from League 1 while Swindon Town are the League 2 champions. Ongoing disciplinary matters mean that it’s not yet certain which clubs will drop out of the EFL into the National League.

Bottom club Stevenage could yet receive a reprieve after Macclesfield Town were handed a fresh EFL misconduct charge.

Wycombe were the big winners of the points per game system, moving up from eighth place to third, because they have at least one game in hand on each of their play-off rivals.

They will now play Fleetwood Town in the play-offs while Portsmouth will take on Oxford United. Dates to be confirmed.

Owner shocked and devastated by kebab van blaze

A shocked kebab van owner is said to be ‘devastated’ after a fire tore through his van. Crews from Wargrave and Wokingham Road were called to fight the blaze which gutted the Dilara kebab van, parked in the grounds of Hare Hatch Sheeplands in London Road, on Wednesday last week. They were unable to salvage the van which was completed destroyed and police have yet to rule out arson. The family live in Reading but have asked not to be named.
