Nominations for this season’s Berkshire Football Awards have already hit the 150-mark as organisers prepare for this summer’s awards night at the Double-Barrelled Brewery in Reading on Wednesday, June 18.
Football in Berkshire - who run the annual awards event - have also announced a new title sponsor for the event - TradeMark Windows, a Woodley-based business that has a long history of supporting grassroots sport in Berkshire having been shirt sponsors at Maidenhead United and Wokingham & Emmbrook over the decades.
With 18 categories to choose from there are awards for the best clubs and players in the men’s and women’s game - but also those unsung heroes who do so much to ensure their clubs can function effectively.
This year there’s a brand-new ‘Grounds Team of the Season award’, celebrating those people who manage to get their club’s surfaces in pristine condition come rain or shine. There are also categories for Volunteers, Players, Managers, Writers and Content Creators.
When all the nominations have been made, the organisers will produce a long list of candidates for the various awards before whittling those names down for a short list by the end of May.
Tickets will also go on sale for the awards in Reading which will once again be hosted by the author and podcaster Paul Watson (Guardian Football Weekley, The Sweeper Podcast and Up Pohnpei! - his inspiring book on kick-starting football in Micronesia) and will be live streamed on the night.
Football in Berkshire editor Tom Canning said: “The addition of a title partner for the Berkshire Football Awards is a positive reinforcement of this event we put on every year. Post-Covid, with the support of the local football community, we decided to ‘go big’ on the event and move it to a larger venue at Double-Barrelled Brewery in Reading.
“The brewery is a favourite venue of mine, and their support has been invaluable.
“Since we moved venue, we’ve sold it out every year and we’ve increased the number of individual award sponsors culminating last year in having a sponsor for each one.
“Now with TradeMark taking on the title partnership, we are able to put on an even better event including improved live stream. It really is the feel-good football night of the year in my humble opinion, and this means we’ll be able to share it with even more people.
“The money we raise from events like this ensure the sites continuation but also means we are able to work on other initiatives like ‘Hitting The Road’ - which after visiting Reading YMCA in March, we want to do several times a season, as well as doing what we can to support clubs in other ways.
“As well as TradeMark, we are very grateful to our individual award sponsors: Rural Pie Co, Lens Digital, Fox Beerhouse (Caversham), STAR - Supporters Trust at Reading, Procision Football Academy, Serious Sport, Cap ‘N’ Chino, Calibra Tree Surgeons, Massage Movements and the Non-League Heroes Podcast. Mark Ashwell, Managing Director TradeMark Windows & Conservatories said: Our non-league football community is everything to me.”
