Desborough travelled to Herts IBC in Watford with something of a makeshift side for their friendly on Saturday.
This was due to players being unavailable because of the Christmas fair and lights switch on that was being held in the town.
However, their understrength side put up a sterling effort to only go down by eight shots in a 67-75 defeat.
Desborough won on two of the rinks by seven shots and on countback. The rink skipped by Mervin Gibbs had to give top rink honours to Clive Dawson, Sam Stack and Tony the barman at Herts, who stepped in to help out.
Rink scores: J Gibbs K Bolam DSmith 12 – 15; R Bridgen S Page A Jones 13 – 15; S Stewart J Bolam P Winstan M Hobson 6 – 23; A N Other M Gibbs 20 – 13; C Dawson S Stack Tony 16 -9

The other highlight of the week came in the Over 60s Double Rink, where Desborough defeated last year’s semi-finals Camberley by two shots (41-39).
The home rink skipped by Kevin Scrace went down to a narrow three-shot defeat, but a strong finish to the rink skipped by Stephen McAlister – who won by five shots – managed to see the Maidenhead team through to the next round.
Rink scores: J Beal GKnapper R Richardson K Scrace 17 – 20; R Dale M Peachey D Simpson S McAlister 24 - 19
