Passengers travelling on South Western Railway (SWR) services between Windsor and London are being advised to plan this weekend as engineering work in the capital leads to significant service changes.
SWR has confirmed that follow-up work on track, signalling and electrical supply upgrades will take place in London, building on improvements carried out over Christmas and the New Year.
As a result, several lines between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction will be closed, with revised train services across parts of the network.
On the suburban network, trains running between London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside will be affected.
Long-distance services between London Waterloo and Reading will also see changes.
On Saturday, January 31, services between London Waterloo, Reading and Windsor & Eton Riverside will all start and finish at Clapham Junction rather than Waterloo.
On Sunday, February 1, disruption will continue, with services between London Waterloo, Reading and Windsor & Eton Riverside, again starting and finishing at Clapham Junction.
SWR has warned that some journeys may take longer than usual and is urging passengers to allow extra time for travel and check their journeys in advance using an online journey planner.
Peter Williams, SWR’s customer and commercial director, speaking on behalf of South Western Railway and Network Rail, said: “We’re sorry for the disruption that customers may experience this weekend.
“It's important customers plan their journeys carefully and allow extra time to complete them, as some services will be revised with changes to calling patterns.
“When this maintenance, at one of the busiest parts of our network, is complete, our customers can expect fewer delays and a more reliable railway.”
