Disruption between Reading and London Paddington due to fire on property near railway

Fewer trains are currently running due to a fire on property near the railway between Reading and London Paddington.

In a post on X, Great Western Railway (GWR) said that that train services running to and from these stations may be delayed or cancelled.

The disruption is expected until 8pm.

Update: GWR has stated on X that disruption is now expected to continue until 11pm.

Shocked colleagues have paid tribute to a 'passionate' languages teacher killed on a rail level crossing. Reading Blue Coat School teacher David Montague died when his Piaggio Scooter was struck by high speed Paddington to Taunton service at the Ufton Nervet rail crossing near Reading on Tuesday. The 45-year-old had taught Spanish and French at the Sonning School for six years. The headteacher Michael Windsor said he would be warmly remembered by the school community.
