South West Railway urges people 'not to travel' amid major disruption

SWR runs trains from Windsor, Ascot and Sunningdale.

Update 4.56pm: South Western Railway has said disruption will likely continue until the end of the day.

Network Rail has fixed the signalling fault at London Waterloo, but problems with train delays and cancellations remain.

SWR said in an update: "We are currently recovering our services, however trains in and out of London Waterloo are subject to cancellations, delays and last-minute alterations."

Update 12.45pm: South Western Railway has said disruption is set to continue until 9pm tonight.

All lines are experiencing problems, the company said, and passengers should avoid 'all non-essential travel until further notice'.

South Western Railway has urged passengers to avoid using trains across its entire network, as a signalling fault at London Waterloo continues.

The operator, which runs services through Windsor, Ascot and Sunningdale, said major disruption has meant trains had been cancelled, delayed or revised.

In an update on its website, South Western Railway (SWR) said: We have been informed of a signalling problem at London Waterloo.

“This means that trains are currently unable to use platforms 1 to 14.

“We are advising passengers not to travel until further notice.”

Tickets can be used on certain bus services for the duration of the disruption, which SWR is advising will be until 10.30am.
