In the public notices this week, new plans have been sent in for the area at the rear Red Lion pub and there is one road closure announced in Slough.

Planning

An application is in to install a car wash at the rear of the historic Red Lion pub in Colnbrook.

The Grade II-listed Red Lion on Colnbrook High Street is a 17th century timber-framed building, later re-fronted in the 18th century.

It was once part of a network of coaching inns that thrived when the road formed part of the main London–Bath route. The pub had been established since at least the mid-1600s.

The building closed as a pub in June 2011 and more recently, in March 2022, its licence was formally ended, allowing the premises to be used as a convenience store called the Red Lion Supermarket.

Now, a new application has been submitted to repurpose the vacant rear car park, a 413sqm area.

The plan is to use the space for a hand car wash, with one wash bay capable of handling up to 30 cars per day. The application states there is room for at least nine cars to wait in the existing bays, with access via the current entrance from the High Street.

Proposed opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 7pm and Sunday and bank holidays 10am to 5pm.

The car wash is expected to employ two full-time and two part-time staff.

According to the documents, all run-off water would be contained within the wash bay, with effluent pumped into a storage tank for removal by a licensed waste company.

The applicants say they may invest in a recycling system if business levels allow. The statement adds that the process would produce very low noise levels and use only non-toxic materials.

Road closures

Slough Borough Council is looking to close part of the road in Langley High Street for roadworks.

This will be from outside number 85 to outside the former Langley Police Station.

The closure will start at a minute past midnight on Friday, August 29 and could be in place for up to 18 months. Work is expected to be finished by Friday, February 26, 2027.

Any works running over longer than 18 months and special permission has to be given by the Secretary of State for Transport to continue the road closure

An alternative route will be provided with diversions marked at the location at the time of the closure. Access will be maintained for local residents and businesses.
