Burnham made it seven wins from seven matches in all competitions this season, extending their lead at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division North with a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Milton United.
The Blue have flown out of the traps this season under brothers Omz and Mo Bakali winning all their league and cup matches so far.
On Saturday, they edged out another side likely to be in the promotion equation, Windsor & Eton FC, with second half goals from David Bamidele and Shyon Dennis.
This tense, well-contested match was overshadowed by an alleged racial slur used by one of the Windsor players to a Burnham player, but it shouldn’t detract from the spirt and character shown by the Blues to come from behind and take all three points at Stag Meadow.
That story will be played out in the coming days for sure, but the real story this season is just how well Burnham have started their season.
The Blues took control of their home fixture with Milton on Monday in the first half. Jordon Brown fired them in front after only 12 minutes.
The striker kept his composure brilliantly to take the ball around the Milton keeper and sweep it into the vacant net from a tight angle. Sandro Camara - the scorer of a brace in Burnham’s recent FA Cup win over Ardley United - added a second in the 17th minute.
Some slick interplay on the edge of the area created the chance for Camara who steered the ball home clinically. Given they’ve conceded just twice in their last four matches, that was always likely to be game over for Milton.
That proved to be the case when Dennis scored his second goal in as many games to make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. He broke the offside trap to run onto a beautiful ball from one of the Blues defenders and then curled the ball past the advancing Milton keeper.
Burnham will feel they probably should have added to their lead in the remainder of the first and the entirety of the second half, but they ran out comfortable winners and now sit five points clear at the top of the table with 15 points from five matches.
It’s also worth noting that Milton were Burnham’s closest challengers going into Monday’s clash.
They’ve now slipped to fourth following a victory for second placed Kidlington over Abingdon United and Windsor & Eton’s goalless draw with Wokingham. Kidlington, Windsor and Milton all have 10 points.
Attention now turns to the Blues FA Cup first qualifying round clash with step 4 side Jersey Bulls at the 1878 Stadium on Saturday (August 30, kick-off 2.15pm).
The bar opens from 12pm and admission is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions while u16s are £1 and u5s are free.
It’s cash only on the turnstiles.
Elsewhere in the division on Monday, Holyport’s helter-skelter season continued with a 3-0 defeat to Ashford Town (Mddx) at Summerleaze Park.
The game swung the visitor’s way in the 23rd minute when Matthew Ensby was sent off and Ashford scored from the penalty spot through Jack Arnold.
Jack Beadle (33') scored Ashford’s second 10 minutes later and Tyler D'Cruz (79') rounded off a comfortable afternoon for the visitors, securing their first league win in the process.
That’s now two wins and three defeats in the league for 12th placed Port under new management team Lee Ovens and Dan Rapley. They are back in action at Broadfields United on Saturday.
