Approval granted to turn Grade II-listed Windsor building into café

Plans to open a new café in a Grade II-listed building in Windsor have been approved by the Royal Borough.

Proposals for the refurbishment of a vacant building into a new café were given the go-ahead on August 21.

The café will be on the ground floor of a three-storey building, on the corner of Peascod Street and Windsor Yards.

Previously, the Grade II-listed building served as the Duke of Cambridge pub. It was then turned into a jewellery shop in 1997.

Since April 2023, the site has been vacant.

As part of the proposals, the first floor will be used for office and staff room spaces whilst the basement is due to be used for storage.

The café, Dolce 85 Gelato, will serve waffles and ice cream, with takeaway seating also included.

Natalie Weavers Interiors put forward the design and access statement on behalf of the cafe’s owner, Atif Hamid.

It said the refurbishment will be done in a ‘traditional contemporary style’ to align with the character of the area.

The plans also anticipate ‘the majority of customers will live locally’ so parking for future clients is not part of the proposals.

Signs with the café’s logo as well as new doors and windows are also part of the refurbishment.
