Windsor College announced as first stop on film and TV networking roadshow

A free networking and panel event for film and TV sector opportunities takes place in Windsor this month.

The ‘Lights! Camera! Business!’ networking roadshow is making its first stop in Windsor College – dubbed ‘The Home of Stage, Screen, and Design’ – to gather businesses, creatives, students, and industry professionals.

Delivered by Screen Berkshire in collaboration with the Slough Borough Council and RBWM, the event will connect new entrants, professionals and key players in the Berkshire film industry.

Attendees can expect panel discussions with film and TV professionals, networking opportunities and insights into how businesses can plug into the growing local screen supply chain.

Screen Berkshire manager at Resource Productions, Lesley-Anne Macfarlane, said: "Berkshire is brimming with talent, and the screen industry is thriving right on our doorstep.

“Lights! Camera! Business! is about making those vital connections between local businesses, industry professionals, students, and the wider film and TV sector.

“We’re excited to show how the screen sector can open doors for the community.”

Lights! Camera! Business! was started by Reading’s Economy Destination Agency and focused on the Reading area, but Screen Berkshire is now rolling this out to other Berkshire boroughs.

Screen Berkshire acts as a bridge between residents, freelance crew, training providers, studios, suppliers and content producers, to identify skills gaps, facilitate training and develop employment pathways.

The Berkshire film industry will bring Lights! Camera! Business! to Windsor College on Tuesday, April 29, from 5pm to 7pm.

Windsor College received £700,000 of investment through the Berkshire Local Skills Improvement Plan and underwent a complete redesign of its campus facilities last year.

The St Leonards Road campus was transformed to incorporate a Virtual Production Studio, editing suites, recording studio, podcast studio, DJ studio and hair and make-up room.

Windsor College was rebranded as the ‘home of stage, screen and design’ at a launch event in November 2024 to help young people break into the creative industries.

The networking event is an opportunity to learn about pursuing a career in the film and television sector, pathways into businesses working with productions, and hear first-hand from those working behind the scenes.

Screen Berkshire is supported by the BFI and led by Resource Productions CIC, University of Reading, Shinfield Studios, Bedlam Film Productions, Amazon MGM Studios, and Berkshire Film Office.

Royal Borough cabinet member for education, Cllr Amy Tisi said: “We’re excited to work with Screen Berkshire to host their very first Lights! Camera! Business! Event at Windsor College.

“The event will be an excellent opportunity for students, local businesses and other creatives to find out more about the film industry and we're proud to be supporting them in a place steeped in film history and rich cultural heritage."

Slough Borough council leader Dexter Smith said: "Slough can be proud of its contribution to innovation in the creative arts, such as being the birthplace of animatronics used in films such as Thunderbirds.

“Our borough is filled with talent ready to contribute to this growing industry. Supporting initiatives like Screen Berkshire helps ensure our local economy and community benefit directly from the opportunities film and TV bring to the region.”
