Action-packed schedule planned for upcoming Maidenhead Waterways Fun Day

Organisers are gearing up for an action-packed day of fun and activities at the free annual Maidenhead Waterways Fun Day next month.

The popular event will be returning to the town centre on Saturday, September 14 with a host of attractions, activities, stalls and plenty of food and drink on offer.

Organised by the Friends of Maidenhead Waterways (FoMW), there will be action taking place throughout the day from 10am to 3pm in the High Street, amphitheatre and on the waterway itself.

Maidenhead MP Josh Reynolds and Royal Borough council leader Simon Werner will also give a welcome to guests during the event.

Royal Borough mayor Cllr Simon Bond and his consort David Armitage will also attend.

There will be model boats in the northern basin and scouts and Claires Court pupils will be taking to the water during the event with activities to keep visitors entertained.

There will be more thrilling action to enjoy as the ‘Presto’ Flamingo Chase takes place twice across the day.

Canoe demos will be keeping visitors busy and magician Patrick Ashe, a member of the Magic Circle who also

appeared on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, will also be showing off his tricks.

An array of stalls will be offering up everything from food to crafts and visitors will get to have a go at hook-a-duck.

Crowds will be entertained with free attractions including a stilt walker, balloon fairy and bubble artist.

Pedal planes will provide fun for youngsters and a mobile farm will also be available on-site on the day.

Guests will have the chance to tour the waterways from the water itself through free boat rides which will take place throughout the day.

As well as the attractions and activities, live music acts will keep guests singing and dancing throughout the day.

The action-packed programme will see the Devine Buskers take centre stage, followed by musician Elaine Skillen.

In the afternoon, opera singer Joanna Henwood will be performing, and guests will later enjoy some reggae and Motown tunes from musician Glenn Stevenson.

Ellington Morris dancers will be showing off their skills, and trained mezzo-soprano singer Charis Anne Luke will also take to the stage.

The live entertainment will be rounded off with a performance from the Waltham St. Lawrence Silver Band.

The event is being sponsored by The Louis Baylis Trust, Waterside Quarter and Presto Italian Street Food.

Richard Davenport, chairman of FoMW, said: “We are excited to be running another free Waterways Fun Day, which is aimed at families and everyone else.

“We’re really looking forward to people enjoying it again. It was a fantastic success last year and we hope we can do even better.”
