REVIEW: Back to the 5678 at South Hill Park

In early 2020, The East Berkshire Operatic Society had the musicals, ‘Chicago’ and ‘Back to the 80s’ ready to go.  They also had ‘42nd Street’ and ‘Annie’ in their sights for future productions, then the pandemic took centre stage and the show didn’t go on.

Down, but not out, EBOS decided all that hard work and talent would not go to waste and when the safety curtain rose again in theatres, they were ready with this vibrant, toe tapping, smile inducing, dazzling showcase.

With excellent excerpts from ‘Chicago’, ‘42nd Street’, ‘Annie’, ’Spamalot’ and EBOS’s own production of ‘Musicals Miscast 3’  and a mix of classic 80s bangers, this was a show that was worth waiting for.

Along with some truly astounding vocal performances and choreography that wouldn’t look out of place in the West End or Broadway, this joyous jukebox was a testament to the talent within EBOS both onstage and backstage.

It was also a clear indication that EBOS are back and although it’s been a bit of a hard knock life for them and us recently, they are ready to ensure that the songs will come out tomorrow and the bright side of life is only a look away.

Back to the 5678 is at South Hill Park until Saturday, November 6.
