A driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a cyclist died on the Bath Road near Twyford.
A grey Honda Accord was in collision with the rider, a 46-year-old from Reading, close to the Wyevale Garden Centre on Sunday.
It happened at about 10.40am and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Safety improvements were made at the London Road junction by Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) following a string of accidents and the death of another cyclist at the same spot in 2006.
Cllr Keith Baker, cabinet member for highways and transport, stressed this week the previous safety issues had been resolved and the junction is now far safer than it was.
"It (the accident) took place on a long straight section of road when visibility was good," said Cllr Baker, who spoke to police following the fatality.
"It is a very sad thing that has happened."
The Honda driver, a 37-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been bailed until November 9.
Police are investigating the collision and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
WBC spent £70,000 on changes to the London Road junction in January 2011.
The work included new pedestrian crossings, an extension of the road island, and new signage and road markings.
The speed limit was also reduced from 50mph to 40mph approaching the junction, and the carriageway was narrowed to prevent dangerous overtaking.
Borough Cllr Bob Pitts (Con, Remenham, Wargrave & Ruscombe), said: "I'm really saddened to hear about this and my condolences go to the family of the cyclist.
"We reduced the speed limit to 40mph on that stretch. People need to be aware of cyclists because they are easy to miss."
Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
