Tom Lewis will take up the post in January when headteacher Veronica Gibbs retires after more than 20 years in the job at the school in Waltham Road, Hurst.
Tom read classics at King's College, London, before working in the city for three years as an equity analyst at Morgan Stanley.
He then moved into teaching and spent eight years at Papplewick School in Ascot, where he progressed to become deputy headteacher.
He then spent four years working in strategic development for a London group of prep schools and nurseries and two years resourcing, opening and heading a British prep school in Asia.
Tom and his wife, Catherine, have two young children who will be joining the school in the autumn.
"I am truly thrilled and honoured to have been appointed head," he said.
"I also very much look forward to meeting children, staff and parents in due course and bringing my own family into the Dolphin community."
Dolphin School is an independent day school and nursery.
