More cars stuck in Lands End Ford

Drivers have once again found themselves in trouble after ignoring deep water signs at Lands End Ford in Whistley Mill Lane.

Yesterday morning, a silver Alfa Romeo was washed about 50 yards downstream after getting in to trouble in the ford.

The driver escaped unharmed.

On Monday, another driver got in to difficulty trying to drive through.

"He got three-quarters of the way across then the engine just died on him," said Steve Collier, landlord of The Lands End Inn.

Unlike, the Alfa Romeo, the car was able to be towed out.

Mr Collier said a car which was swept away on December 18 is also still in the river.

Lands End Ford in Charvil crosses Old River close to where it joins with the River Loddon.

He added why people try and drive through it when water levels are high is the 'most asked question' and the river has been nicknamed 'yo-yo' river as the levels go up and down all the time.

"It is in [the press] on a very regular basis," said Mr Collier.

"People still do it."
