The new team charged with restoring the battered reputation of Twyford's Golden Cross have said they are determined to turn it into a 'pub with manners'.
The problem-plagued watering hole in Waltham Road has been shut for a major makeover and is expected to re-open on Monday.
The five-week facelift is designed to transform it into a family-friendly establishment.
New manager Gail Hansford said: "The pub is brighter and cleaner than before, but we’ve made sure to keep 'pub character'.
"It needed the work, it was left pretty unloved."
The pub has been completely redecorated and a new kitchen is being fitted.
The sports bar has been converted into a restaurant area and bar. The other half of a pub is now a lounge area.
