Slough's John 'The Don' Brennan has boxers running scared

Super-Welterweight John Brennan believes his previous fights ‘makes it hard to find people to fight me’ ahead of his return to boxing this weekend.

Brennan, 36, fights for the first time in 2021 at Nielson Boxing’s Fight Town show at Bracknell Leisure Centre on Saturday. This will be the Slough resident’s 21st career fight and he is confident he can improve on his record of 13 wins, 5 defeats and 2 draws.

Brennan said: “I’ve had my wars so I know that I have a good chin and a good engine.

“My experience has grown from my fights and my age. Because I’ve had those tough fights and people see what I can do it’s hard to find people to fight me.

“I have a couple of losses on my record, but I had poor management, I was the away fighter and I was taking fights on short notice.

“If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have taken those fights.”

Nicknamed ‘The Don’, Brennan paid tribute to his loyal fans ahead of his bout.

“I have a very good social circle, I play football on Saturday and Sunday so the boys always want to come and watch me.

“I like to think I have a good rapport with people in the area, so I’m really lucky that the community supports me.”

Promoter Mark Neilson lavished praise on Brennan and his ability to attract a large audience.

He said: “John is a great fighter to watch, he hits hard and you can tell by his record that he’s not scared of taking risks.”

“Combine that large pool of local support and I think he’ll put on a great performance.”
