Maidenhead Athletics Club runners go big at the Half Marathon

Heather Smith

Sunday, August 22, was the rescheduled date for the Vitality Big Half Marathon 2021, writes Heather Smith.

Conditions were perfect apart from a little drizzle at the beginning. It was really well organised for the 10k+ runners and much like a normal race.

There were at least two Maidenhead Athletics Club (MAC) runners in the race and they were all sent off in waves, which were started by Christine Ohuruogu.

The 13.52 mile course goes all through the Limehouse Link tunnel, through Canary Wharf, Blackwall & Wapping, over Tower Bridge through Rotherhithe to Greenwich with the finish at the Cutty Sark.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and I earned a personal best (PB) with a time of 01:50:29.

Lesley Kernaghan had an excellent run to better her 2020 time by nine minutes. She ran a negative split for the first time in her life, 1:00:38, and finished in 2:00:58.

Lesley was placed 5,137 overall, 1,237 in gender and seventh in her age group.

Lee Knott ran the Vitality Half in London in 01:49. “One minute off my PB which is not bad for my first official half in nearly two years,” he said.
