An impressive 23 different football clubs have made the shortlist for this year’s TradeMark Berkshire Football Awards, alongside a host of individuals in a range of categories that celebrate pretty much every facet of the beautiful game.

The long list of nominees in the various categories was released last week before being whittled down by the Football in Berkshire team to create a shortlist, with the winners set to be announced at the awards night at the Double-Barrelled Brewery in Reading on Wednesday, June 18.

A team of 20 judges read the back stories, took note of the nominations and voted for their top three nominees in each category. Those scores were then put together to form the short list which was announced on Friday.

Tickets for the event are now on sale, with the awards ceremony to be hosted by Guardian Football Weekly podcast regular, author of Up Pohnpei! and co-host of The Sweeper podcast, Paul Watson.

Among those nominated this year are Burnham FC and Windsor & Eton FC in the Matchday experience category, Slough Town’s Callum Withers in the Supporter of the Season category, Jason Stewart of Maidenhead United and Lewis Clements & George Gould of Windsor & Eton in the grounds team of the season category, and Megan Halfacree of Maidenhead United and Scott Davies of Slough Town for the goal of the season award.

Jamie Tompkins, who recently left Ascot United, and Windsor & Eton’s Matty Angell have been nominated in the manager of the season category (men’s game).

Alongside the main awards there will also be a tribute to Maidenhead United’s long serving manager Alan Devonshire.

Owner shocked and devastated by kebab van blaze

A shocked kebab van owner is said to be ‘devastated’ after a fire tore through his van. Crews from Wargrave and Wokingham Road were called to fight the blaze which gutted the Dilara kebab van, parked in the grounds of Hare Hatch Sheeplands in London Road, on Wednesday last week. They were unable to salvage the van which was completed destroyed and police have yet to rule out arson. The family live in Reading but have asked not to be named.
