Windsor's much-loved yearly pancake race saw teams of colourful characters flipping it to win it on Shrove Tuesday this week.
Scores of people showed up to soak up the syrupy sunshine at Windsor & Eton Pancake Race 2025.
At 10.20am, teams began tearing backwards and forwards, frantically grasping for the sweet spot between getting their pancakes airborne and leaving a sad crumbling mess on the floor.
At the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre, the panoply of chefs, fairy-tale and film characters, bears, bumblebees, Vikings and various people in hats raced flat out for the Fastest Flippin’ Finishers title.
Mascots trying their best also bumbled along, sluggish as a pancake stuck to its pan – but nonetheless appreciated for their efforts.
A classic fixture of Windsor’s annual race, Deefa the Dolphin reared up on his tail to do his best for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice.
Other quirky characters were there to take the cake, including such VIPs as Nintendo's most famous brothers Mario and Luigi, Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, and unlikely companions Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.
Glinda and her bitter rival, the green-faced Wicked Witch of the West, also stopped by, cackling at the sight of all the flying and falling pancakes.
All local businesses were encouraged to enter teams to battle it out for the winner’s shield, alongside any organisations and community groups.
After a scrum of ‘very competitive and close fought races,’ the crowning glory went to Sir Christopher Wren Hotel, which managed to get three teams into the final.
It was a ‘well deserved win,’ said Louise Wilson, chair Windsor and Eton Business Partnership, which organised the pancake race.
“What a wonderful day – the weather was perfect and drew out local people and businesses into the town centre,” she said.
