The community café was buzzing at the grand opening of Maidenhead Foodshare’s new home, as people from across the community came together to show their support.

Among the guests were donors, supporters, local businesses, and members of the public, all eager to learn more about FoodShare and its vital role in supporting local people.

Guests were invited on guided tours of the new building, led by Debbie Gee, Lester Tanner, and Nigel Cohen, who each shared insights into Foodshare’s services and answered questions from visitors.

Actor and documentary filmmaker Ross Kemp joined Debbie’s tour. He was ‘warm, approachable, and instantly relatable’, says Foodshare.

He spoke ‘with genuine passion and understanding’ of Foodshare and the challenges faced by people using its service, words ‘that resonated deeply’ with the team and the wider community.

Maidenhead MP Josh Reynolds also ‘spoke passionately’ about Foodshare and the dedication of its volunteers, as well as the power of the community coming together to help those in need.

The Royal Borough’s Mayor, Councillor Mandy Brar, officially opened the Foodshare building by cutting the ribbon, signalling the start of a new chapter for FoodShare.

The event was ‘a huge success, a fantastic day filled with energy, community spirit, and advocacy for Foodshare’s mission.’

Debbie Gee, trustee of Foodshare, said: “We were overwhelmed by the support at our grand opening.

“Seeing the room filled with people supporting us, including donors, businesses, local families, and volunteers, was truly inspiring.

“Ross Kemp, Josh Reynolds and Madam Mayor spoke with such passion and understanding, and their words really reflected what Foodshare is all about: community, compassion, and hope.

“We’re excited for the future in our new home and are very grateful to everyone who continues to stand with us.”
