Cookham Dean Village Fete boasts 'the best line-up we’ve had' in 45 years

The Cookham Dean Village Fete is set for September 20, featuring returning favourites such as the ukulele band and dog show to celebrate the day.

There will also be a tombola, silent auction and stalls selling gifts and homemade produce, allowing visitors to see the best of what’s grown around Cookham and crafted in the area.

Organisations in the Cookham Dean area will run events at the quintessential village fair from 1-5pm on the Cookham Dean Old Cricket Common.

Organisers say there is ‘something for everyone’ and visitors to the village green can enjoy live music from Verona’s Musical Balloon Band through to classics by Cookham Cluckers Ukulele Band.

The annual Cookham Dean Flower & Produce Show will be held in the village hall in the morning, and the craft tent will host exhibitions from skilled artists, carvers and crafters.

Towards the end of the day, there will be an auction of the produce by the war memorial.

Sandwiched between is the competitive dog show on the village green, with owners and their furry friends invited to enter their prize pooch in categories such as the waggiest tail.

The small animal farm and the children’s play area will entertain the younger ones while grown-ups can relax at the Cookham Cherry Picker’s Bar or the food fayre offering a wide choice of refreshments.

There will also be the chance to win prizes at the silent auction and tombola, with all profits from the fete going back into charities and the community.

The village is ‘proudly’ looking back on 45 years of fundraising at the Village Fete for Cookham and Maidenhead causes, with over £250,000 donated to local charities over the years.

Chair of the organising committee, Pam Forrester, is really looking forward to this year’s festivities.

She said: “This could be the best line-up we’ve had with a fantastic mix of music, food, entertainment, activities for children, craft and produce stalls.

“We are so grateful to all our sponsors, led by the Shanly Foundation, Savills, Equity Networks and Copas Traditional Turkeys, and we hope with everyone’s support we can break more fundraising records this year.”
