Windsor FC's title bid alive and kicking

Windsor FC boss Keith Scott admits last Saturday could have been a pivotal moment in the Combined Counties Premier Division title race.

With half an hour gone of his side’s game with Molesey, Scott was watching his team trail 3-0 while league leaders Guildford City were winning 1-0 at home to Wembley.

If the scores had remained the  same Windsor would have fallen  14 points behind Guildford with only two games in hand.

But Scott’s side produced a stunning fightback to claim a thrilling 4-3 success, sealed by an injury-time winner from Michael Chennells.

And while they were doing that, Wembley produced a late comeback of their own to beat Guildford 2-1.

So instead of trailing by 14 points, Windsor had closed the gap to just eight and with two games in hand and Guildford still to come to Stag Meadow, their title dream is still very much alive.

Scott said:“If we’d lost and Guildford had won they would have been 14 points clear.

“That would have made things very difficult for us as they could have come to us, lost, and still won the title.

“So that last 10 minutes of both matches could potentially be very defining in terms of how the season may end.

“It certainly puts things back in the melting point.”

He added:“I think there will be plenty more twists and turns. What we’ve done on Saturday is put pressure on them.

“I’m sure at half-time they knew we were losing so for them to come in and find out we’d won at full-time and they’d lost, must have hurt them a bit.

“It makes things exciting. Football is all about having something to fight for at this stage of the season.

“We’ve got a great two or three months coming up.”

Windsor will be looking to keep the pressure on Guildford when they travel to Horley Town on Saturday.
