McDermott signs new Royals contract

Brian McDermott
Brian McDermott has signed a new deal to stay at Reading until 2015.

Reading FC manager Brian McDermott has signed a new deal which will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until 2015.

The news come as a major boost to the promotion chasing Royals as Premier League outfit Wolves were said to be interested in McDermott as a replacement for Mick McCarthy.

But his decision to sign a new deal has put an immediate halt to the speculation, leaving Reading chairman Sir John Madejski ecstatic.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted that Brian is signing and this is a very, very important day for our club.

“Everybody knows how highly we rate him and he has more than repaid the faith we showed when we appointed him. He is a top manager.

“In the space of two years he has not only taken us to the play-off final and to two quarter-finals in the FA Cup, he has done so in a manner befitting Read- ing Football Club.

“He is extremely well respected by the staff, players and of course the supporters and I know this news will be very well received by our fans.”
