Burnham Christmas Fayre 2011

"It may have rained on our parade but it didn't dampen our spirits."

That was the verdict from the Burnham Christmas Fayre coordinator Caroline Shephard after strong winds and heavy rain failed to deter 2,000 people from turning out for the village's annual celebration yesterday.

About 120 children waved their Olympic-themed banners as they joined the parade, which started in Church Street before working its way down the High Street.

A host of entertainers were on hand to provide some Christmas cheer, including a stilt cyclist, steel band, circus acts and Burnham-based Pop Goes The Choir.

But as usual the main attraction was Santa Claus, who greeted the crowds during the parade from his sleigh.

Caroline, a member of the Lions Club of Burnham, which organises the event each year, said: "It started off windy and then when the wind died down the heavens opened.

"But it's so worth it to see the kids' faces when they see Santa, it makes all the hard work worthwhile."

Housing association L&Q and the Buckinghamshire Community Foundation sponsored the fayre while South Bucks District Council sent an artist to community groups and schools to produce the banners.
