Millions invested in primary education in Wokingham

ColletonSchool2Millions is being invested in primary education in Hurst and Twyford by Wokingham Borough Council (WBC).

St Nicholas Primary School in Hurst is one of three primary schools to have received the boost of improved facilities this winter.

The school is being re-built around its historic buildings thanks to a £2m injection from WBC and the pupils and teaching staff moved into new classrooms and a new hall on Friday.

Investment has come through the Primary Capital Programme.

The council is also planning to expand Colleton Primary School with admissions set to rise from 35 to 60 a year by September, 2013.

Architects and traffic experts have been working with the head teacher and governors to complete feasibility studies and to minimise the impact on the neighbouring community.

The council is intending to submit a planning application on the proposals in the near future.

The expansion will be funded by £7m allocated to the council from central Government.
