Deadline approaching for Colleton expansion comments

ColletonSchool2Villagers have less than two weeks to comment on expansion plans for Colleton Primary School in Twyford.

Plans for a proposed expansion of the primary school to nearly double the number of students were lodged before Christmas and the deadline for comments is Thursday, February 9.

Formal consultation on the plans began on January 4.

The plans were displayed at a public meeting in December and show two sizeable extensions and internal modifications to create new classrooms, a larger hall, a new kitchen and a plant room.

Some feel Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) has not yet come up with a credible plan to tackle traffic congestion in Colleton Drive.

However, Chris Allen, chairman of governors, said places were heavily oversubscribed and the need for extra admissions was clear.

Piers Brunning, a service manager for WBC’s children’s services, said a basket of measures would help alleviate traffic congestion, including an expanded car park, a new drop off zone, a 'park and stride' scheme from Stanlake Meadow and improved parking restrictions.

The expansion will be funded by £7m allocated to the council from Government.

If the expansion plans are approved  admissions would increase from 35 to 60 places a year from 2013.
