A teenage singer and musician from Hedgerley has hit the right note receiving two prestigious offers. Lydia Marshall, 15, a boarding pupil at Queen Anne's School in Caversham, received offers of a place at both the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music junior departments. She studies grade 8 Clarinet and Grade 7 singing and sent off an application form to both colleges during the Easter break.
Quartet Blueflint combine traditional Scottish folk with Americana and bluegrass sounds. Their sound focuses heavily on the harmonious vocals of Deborah Arnott and Clare Neilson with musicians Hugh Kelly and Roddy Nielson completing the mix. Between them, the foursome play banjo, ukulele, double-bass and fiddle, to create a rich, textured sound that nods to both past and present.
Sometimes it's time to stop running and enjoy the world. That's the message Reading-based band Amys Ghost are trying to get across in the brand new video for their single Peaceful Sleepers. Part-filmed in the Oxfordshire countryside, its theme is one to which many people can relate. Singer Amy Barton explained: "I'm one of these people who always has far too much on my plate and I don't really have a lot of time to myself.
An explosion of creativity will hit the town centre next weekend. Buskers, living statues, bellydancers and bands will bring Maidenhead to life as part of Art on the Street. They will join a bumper group of 120 artists that will be displaying and selling their work in the High Street on Saturday, May 12. The bi-annual event is fast becoming one of the biggest in Maidenhead's calendar and has been ramped up a gear since it was last held in December.
A devilishly difficult composition inspired by a dream will be performed by two virtuosos this week. Violinist Ben Baker and pianist Petr Limonov will take on Tartini's notorious Violin Sonata in G Minor at Norden Farm on Sunday, May 6. It is famed for requiring incredible technical skill.
